Overcoming the Typical Barriers for Training Your Puppy

Often times, the biggest difficulty in training your dog the right way is being inconsistent in your efforts. It is easy to forget that it can take some time for your dog to begin to nomprehend basic concepts. Your dog will first try to get a sense of who the leader is. They have a pack mentality, so it is neccessary to understand this. Your job is to establish that you are indeed that leader. This is best done with love and a consistent effort. If you don't, then they will instinctually go for that position. This of course makes training them much harder. While it is true that some dogs learn a bit faster than others, your efforts will pay off.
This ties in to the next hurdle which is being too impatient. In this society, we want instant satisfaction. If is not done right this second, then it is not worth the effort. Training your dog doesn't work like that. Otherwise, you will get discouraged and most likely quit after you finish potty training them. You cannot have an "I'm going to give up, this is too troublesome" attitude. In truth, once you have established that you are in charge they will want to obey you. It is just a matter of communicating your intentions to them in the correct manner. It is always a smart idea to have some dog treats with you during the training as well. Dogs tend to think with their stomach. It might take a little time to get your dog to obey you correctly, but the results always outweigh the difficulties
The last thing you have to do is treat your dog as a companion. Only by working together, can you get things to work the way they should be in your home. When you get irritated your dog will sense it and won't respond correctly. This always makes it harder to teach them. You need to remember to show them love. If you start with a positive relationship in the beginning it will bless you for their entire life. You have to see this as a mutual benefit for the both of you. Even though you are training them to fit into your lifestyle, they will be more than willing to please you. All that you have to do is the basics such as potty training, no begging, proper behavior around people, and so on. Anything other than that is a bonus. If you want to teach them some fun tricks then you have already built upon a solid foundation of love and friendship. In the end, you will both be much happier.
