What do you do if all the hairstyles out there are boring, overused, and outdated? Maybe you should give kinky twists a try! Kinky twists are an excellent choice for on-the-go people who want an easy-to-maintain yet trendy style. Unlike popular micro braids, kinky twists aren't actually braided; they're twisted. Here are some important points to keep in mind when getting (or doing) kinky twists: 1. Using a little bit of gel on the natural hair will keep any stray hairs from popping out of the twist. 2. Starting the twist is a very difficult skill to master. You can start the kinky twist in one of two ways-a twist or a cornrow. If you're starting your twist with a cornrow, make sure to cornrow down at least one time, but don't cornrow down more than twice. This will ensure that your twist is secure at the root. 3. Kinky twists have such a unique look because you are not only twisting the two strands of hair individually, but you are also twisting the pieces across each other. 4. To have a finished style that appears fuller, try staggering the parts. Layering the parts one on top of the other will allow the twists to fall on top of the empty part, not on top of another twist. 5. Wrapping the hair at night with a silk scarf will keep the style intact while sleeping. Kinky twists flow freely, just like micro braids, and they don't lay on the scalp like cornrows. It is possible to do kinky twists with your natural hair, but if it's not long enough you can add synthetic hair for a more natural look. Either way, from start to finish, kinky twists should take about six to eight hours to complete. Kinky twists can last up to three months with proper care and maintenance. When you are finished doing your kinky twists, you must secure the ends or they will unravel. There are several ways to finish the twist. If you want some curl on the ends of your twists, roll the ends with a small rod. Once you've rolled the hair, dip the ends in hot water and towel dry. The water must be to the boiling point, so using a large container or jug with a handle will be very helpful. Be very careful around the boiling water. If you like your ends straight, just dip them in the hot water but don't use the rods. Kinky Twists are very easy to care for. To add a little shine, use some oil sheen spray or regular oil sheen. Don't forget to use that silk scarf and wrap up your hair before you go to bed.
