Calling Cards: save your money

By: Roberto Garabell

Man is a social animal. Communication is very important for him. There are three ways to communicate with others; first is to go meet people in person, second is write a letter and third is call them up. Nowadays life has become so hectic that people hardly find time to go and meet friends or loved ones. Communicating through a letter is a good alternative but talking over the phone is a better one.
Earlier it was not so simple to make a phone call especially a long distance one. You had to book a trunk call and stay awaiting your call got through. Then came the service of direct dialing where you could call up your contacts and talk to them without going through the phone machinist. Then the charges were high and not everybody could afford them or you could not talk for a long time if you did not want to pay a fortune.
Calling home or the office when on tour is necessary. Then hotels bill exorbitant rates for long distance calls, you may be having a cell phone but roaming charges are often very hight. So naturally, you would not like to do it and would definitely save your cellular minutes. The next alternative is “Calling Card”.
A calling card is like a credit card but unlike a credit card, it is prepaid. By buying a calling card, you buy the minutes before hand. There are two types of prepaid calling cards. Those used for cell phones and the other for long distance landline phones. In prepaid for cell phones when a subscriber buys a calling card, the service provider records its serial number and adds minute credits to the cell as per the worth of the card. Once the allocated minutes on from the calling card are over, a card must be replaced with new one.
Another type of prepaid calling card is for the landline, which is for making long distance calls. In this case, the buyer registers the card with the provider, starts an account and gets a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Usually, the access number and the PIN need to be entered before dialing the phone number. The provider electronically keeps a track of the minutes left and puts the call through as per that. This type of calling card is generally more convenient for international travel or business tours. Some cards in this category are rechargeable by putting additional money to the account.
There are a number of providers offering a wide range of calling cards. You can choose the one best fitting for you.
There is another type of calling card known as secured disposable debit card calling system. This system offers throwaway but safe telephone debit card. Identification number is displayed on the telephone card that is temporarily concealed and cannot be seen or photographically detected. After buying the card from a provider, a user can scratch off the temporary covering and access the telephone service system by approaching a central system server and conveying the exposed identification number on the card. The central system in turn monitors the duration of the call and deducts the appropriate amount from the predetermined debit limit. Different charges are applicable for different calls like interstate long distance call, international long distance call, local or conference calling.
So now, you can take control of options with a prepaid calling card, which is a great way to keep in touch with your friends in an inexpensive and proficient way.
