All of us, when we think about African music, immediately think about percussions and, more in general, about a music characterised by a particular rhythm, but in fact the universe of African music is much wider and more diversified, and it is characterised on the one hand by tradition, on the other hand by influences and developments which have taken place through the years. If you wish to understand and discover the diversified world of African music, but also if you want to spend some days dancing and listening to good music, you must go to the Africolor Festival in Paris. The 20th edition of this special Festival will take place from the 21st November to the 24th December in one of the most multicultural cities in Europe, which is characterised by a high percentage of people coming from the African continent, to give an evidence of the fact that Africa is not only to be connected with the dangerous suburbs of Paris or with discriminated immigrants, but it is above all a place rich in culture, which can offer a lot to others, to those who succeed in looking beyond the veil of prejudices. One of the missions of the festival, indeed, is that of creating a meeting point for different cultures, a place where everybody can be given the possibility of confronting with other people, a place where everybody can feel free to know and to make themselves known. And it is according to this philosophy that for almost 20 years the Festival has tried to be a showcase for artists coming from the African continent, those artists who have enriched our musical universe and who have also succeeded in broadening our view on the world and in adding something both to our culture and to our interiority. Space will therefore be given to important artists like Kettly Noël, Nahawa Doumbia, who since the first edition of the Festival in 1989 has opened the way to the Malian community, and Danyel Waro, who with his long career has played an important role in the festival for 15 years. However, Africolor does not only give space to well-known artists, on the contrary, the Festival is also meant to be a stepping stone for emerging artists, who are not famous outside Africa yet, like Salif Keïta or Touré Kunda. All kinds of African music will be celebrated during the Festival, and the whole continent, from the Maghreb to the Indian Ocean, will be represented. However, being the Festival characterised by an international connotation, and having the event the mission of make people meet, Africolor will also host artists coming from all over the world, who will perform in different venues all around the city. Paris s a multiethnic city and is rich in art and culture, but for a month it also becomes the capital city of music, thanks to an event that will colour the city with the sounds of the world. Do not miss the chance to take part in this unique event, book now your cheap hotel in Paris and enjoy the Africolor Festival! Date: 21st November - 24th December 2008 Location: Paris, France
